The eighteenth week of the Diary starts.........

 

April 26th, Sunday
Dear Diary:
Last night it came a very hard rain. It always sounds so loud on our tin roof. No one has been here today except Artie and Aunt Bet. I have been reading. Mr. Gothard did come down to borrow some books to read. And of course Dany's children were here. We haven't done much of anything today but a little of everything. The wind is blowing and kinda cold now.

April 24th, Monday
Dear Diary:
Mother is 60 yrs old today. Mr. Archie Fox came this morning to paint the house. He went home for his dinner. Mother and I went down to Becky Mathews this afternoon and then down to Dany's. Aunt Cynthia, Mrs. Betty and Mrs. Clara have been here awhile. Mother is worrying over the school election. We heard that Clara Howton is going to run against Gothard. If Gothard wins Buster will get the school.

April 28th, Tuesday
Dear Diary:
Archie Fox is painting the house again today. Dad and Finis sprayed the trees this morning. Mrs. Fox and Ethel came with Archie this afternoon when he came back frin dinner. I have been reading. Ethel, Mrs. Fox and Mother are gone up to Mrs Clara's. Beulah, Adeline and Hezzie came for awhile last night. Beulah took her new clothes with her.

April 29th, Wednesday
Dear Diary:
I have been reading more today. Archie is still painting the house, he hasn't finished yet. Dad, Gothard adn Iley went to Madisonville today. Mrs. Betty stayed all night with us last night and ate breakfast with us this morning. She goes home before breakfast most of the time. I forgot to mention last Saturday that got three ( 3 ) new dresses from Carrie and Ken.

April 30th, Thursday
Dear Diary:
Marvin and I have been putting up basketball goals over at the school house. Mother has been at Dany's and Dad went over to the Clark Place. Aunt Bet has been making lye soap for Mother outside in the big iron kittle. She are dinner with us. I have been reading tonight. It sprinkled rain a little this afternoon and Mrs. Betty is spending the night.

May 1st, Friday
Dear Diary:
It is raining this afternoon. Mother is up at Mrs. Clara's. We got a letter from Nola yesterday saying they were coming Sunday if it didn't rain. Mr. Gothard is here at the present. John Brown was here earlier in the afternoon. The school election is getting pretty hot. He doesn't know any one is running for trustee but Gothard.

May 2nd, Saturday
Dear Diary:
Today was the school election. We certainly were scared until we found out for certain who won. The vote was 44 and 47 in favor of Gothard. Hurray! Frances has been here most all afternoon. We sure have a good time. Floyd and Dempsy came down and voted and the other side is trying to get up a disturbsion.
